The self-catering cottage is in the heart of the National Forest, with its extensive area of ancient woodlands and newer plantings, and a wide range of visitor facilities. The area provides many opportunities for walking, bird watching, fishing and cycling.

Hartshorne Village is surrounded by wonderful countryside – Hartshorne dams and woodland are a short walk from the cottage, and the beautiful Foremark Reservoir is only 2 miles away, with its nature reserve, walks and picnic areas. 

The nearby villages of Repton, Ticknall and Melbourne are full of character and historic interest, and well worth visiting. There are several canals and golf-courses in the vicinity.

The cottage is also ideally located for day trips to the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District , and the cities of Derby, Leicester & Nottingham.

Calke Abbey & Gardens (NT), with beautiful grounds and lakes; Ashby Castle; Conkers; Moira Furnace; Twycross Zoo; Snibston Discovery Park; Staunton Harold Reservoir  - sailing club, craft shops, tea-rooms and garden centre; Melbourne Hall - lake, gardens, craft shops and tea-room; Donington Park; Alton Towers Theme Park; Drayton Manor Theme Park.
